Praise God for a day of rest! We went to the orphanage this morning at 9:30. We brought gifts and just played with Jonathan and Anastasia. Anastasia responded beautifully, sitting in "momma's" lap once again while Jonathan and "Poppa" played ball. We all four played ball for most of the time after that. We saw a whiny side of Jonathan when he insisted the ball belonged to him. We managed to explain the ball was for both of them and the trucks were his and the doll Anastasias. He didn't like that too much and got pouty, but we were able to bring him out of it quite easily with laughing and tickling. So adorable.

The children had to go to lunch, so we left for the day and spent the rest of the afternoon having lunch at the cafeteria in our hotel and shopping in the open air market about a block away from our hotel in Donetsk. This is our first full day without our guide who went back to Kiev to process documents. It is very interesting to order food from a menu in Russian. You don't really know what you are getting. That is why we like the cafeteria where all the food is sitting out so you can at least see what it looks like. It is still hard to tell what is in it. Mike ordered what looked like a potato salad with olives in it, but it turned out to be really fishy. EW! Our best food experience was the gelatto or ice cream we had today. Not like gelatto we tried once at home, but way better even than our ice cream, which is "fluffly" by comparison. Ukrainian "ice cream" is very dense, rich and creamy. We decided to make it a daily tradition, so maybe we won't lose weight while we're here.

The open air market is very interesting. They sell everything here! Cheese, meat, fresh (?) fish, pastries, toys, underwear, furs, produce...The fish stands are incredible. The fish just sits out in crates or hanging like in the photo above. We have even seen people selling fish from their cars on the side of the road. Sushi anyone? The flowers are also incredible-incredibly beautiful! There is an entire row of flower shop after flower shop, each filled with beautifully arranged, fresh flowers of all kinds. We will ask our guide when we meet up with him again where these flower are grown. We bought a few things and found the shop owners to be very friendly and patient with us. Notice the girl in the photo wearing the fur coat on the left. We would love to take photos of all the elaborate fur coats the women here wear, but it would be quite suspicious to be sure, so we don't do it. The women here typically deck themselves out in gorgeous coats and spike-heeled, long leather boots even to go to the market and in spite of the muddy, uneven walkways.

  1. Hi Rose, Mike, Anastasia and Jonathan!!
All week I have been looking forward to sitting down and reading about your journey! It's been a busy week at work this week, so sorry I haven't written before now but know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers. I am so excited for you all!! God is so good! What a blessing that you have all connected and that these twins will get to stay together and be in a loving family:) Praise the LORD! What beautiful smiles they both have. I am praying for the girls too. In fact.... Dear Lord, We want to acknowledge that You are the God who created the universe, who knows every step we make BEFORE we take it. Lord You created the heavens and yet You love us and know every hair on our head. Lord thank You for the miracle you are creating in the Rosenthal's life. Thank You that You have been so very close to Mike and Rose this week and that You Will is written all over this. Lord I pray that You would give comfort to Anastasia, Jonathan, Mike Rose, Abbie and Hannah as they move into this new transition. Lord please give Mike and Rose wisdom to know what to do in each circumstance that comes up. Lord I pray that You would place Your loving hand over the hearts of Anastasia and Jonathan and that they would feel Your peace. Lord I pray for Your will and timing in the rest of their time there. Lord I pray that if there is another child You would like for them to take home, that You would make that abundently clear and if not, that You would make that just as clear to them. Lord we pray for Halle and the rest of the children at the orphanage and ask that You would hold them close and help them to find great homes to live in, Lord help these children to know You, please we ask. Lord please continue to watch over Abbie and Hannah and their caregivers. Thank You that Mike and Rose have so many people who love them and want to help and that their daughters are already loving their new siblings. Lord we thank You that You are in our lives and that You love us. WE PRAISE YOU! In Jesus name. Amen! Well I hope today is a good day for you all. I will keep praying! God Bless you!

  2. God is so GREAT!

Children are truly a beautiful gift of God. They give us hope for tomorrow and joy to our lives today.

How blessed you are that God has brought you and your family so much love into your lives. Your selfless love and courage is encouraging to us all to see God's unending love and compassion in everyone that we look at.

May God help you both to desire what He knows is best for you. He knows it is the desire of your hearts to open up your lives to the joy of these children. Because of that, He will surely fill your home with new children's laughter and joy.

May He give you the love, patience, courage and wisdom to do what is right in His eyes and guide your every step in this man-made process.

Continue to be a blessing for each and every lost orphan He brings across your paths in the days and weeks ahead....no matter how brief or fleeting your encounter.

May God continue to bless you and keep you both and your family here at home safe.

    Aloha,

    Jeff & Paula
